Models
Preclinical models of kidney disease
We offer a range of validated in vivo and ex vivo models covering acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and diabetic nephropathy. Each model is accompanied by a detailed overview of its scientific rationale, experimental design, study timeline, and available outcome measures, providing customers with the information needed to select the most appropriate model for their research objectives.
Acute kidney injury
Ischemic, inflammatory and nephrotoxic models of acute kidney injury, with readouts from early tubular stress to maladaptive repair.
- Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI)The reference model of ischemic acute kidney injury, used for both early injury and the transition to chronic kidney disease.
- Anti-GBM glomerulonephritisAntibody-mediated glomerular injury with crescent formation, proteinuria and rapidly declining kidney function.
- Cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)Polymicrobial sepsis with septic acute kidney injury, the clinically closest model of sepsis-associated AKI.
- LPS-induced systemic inflammationA highly reproducible endotoxaemia model for inflammatory kidney injury and rapid anti-inflammatory screening.
- Cisplatin-induced AKINephrotoxic tubular injury model, available as single high-dose or repeated low-dose protocols.
- Folic acid-induced AKINon-surgical crystal nephropathy model covering the full sequence from acute injury to established fibrosis.
Chronic kidney disease
Progressive models of tubulointerstitial and glomerular disease, covering fibrosis, proteinuria and mineral bone disorder.
- Adenine-induced nephropathyDiet-induced crystal nephropathy producing progressive CKD with mineral and bone disorder.
- 5/6 nephrectomySurgical reduction of renal mass driving hyperfiltration, hypertension and progressive glomerulosclerosis.
- Adriamycin-induced nephropathyPodocyte injury model of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis with heavy, sustained proteinuria.
- Unilateral ureter obstruction (UUO)Rapid, highly reproducible model of renal fibrosis with an internal contralateral control.
- Col4a3 knockout (Alport syndrome)Genetic model of hereditary glomerular basement membrane disease with progressive kidney failure.
Diabetic nephropathy
Type 1 and accelerated type 2 diabetic kidney disease models with albuminuria and structural glomerular endpoints.
Ex vivo
Rodent and human precision-cut kidney slices for short-term compound exposure, nephrotoxicity and target-engagement readouts, bridging cell-based screens and animal studies.
